Our Values

We are a sociable enterprise, which means we value the relationships we create with each other, and with the planet, more than money. The work we do is also guided by the following principles:

  • Don’t lie. The internet is a crowded place, so the stories that travel are the ones that are simple and authentic. The only reliable way to sell your product is to make it genuinely exceptional.
  • Keep it simple. Overcomplicated projects never end well. If what you’re doing seems impossibly hard and overwhelming, you’re probably doing it wrong.
  • Be sustainable. Making money is fine, but profiting from the destruction of the planet and our society is… well, it’s not fine. Don’t expect us to help with anything that can’t be healthily sustained.
  • Mutual profit. We want everyone connected with this business to profit from the work we do – not just us and our clients, but all the people affected by our projects. We won’t help you exploit people.
  • Sharing. The internet is all about collaboration. We use ideas developed by other people all the time, and so we share our ideas back with the community too. We don’t like monopolies, or hording knowledge, and we don’t want to reinvent the wheel.
  • Positive change. We want to help people and projects that contribute to improving the world, human and non-human. If we like what you’re doing and we can afford to help you, we will. Sociability will not participate in any activity that makes the world a horrible place to live.

There isn’t a legal structure for the type of business we are, but we’re doing what we can to create something healthy and helpful. If you don’t like what we’re saying or think we’ve forgotten something, e-mail Andy at andy[at]sociability.org.uk.
